Notre Dame football radio analyst Allen Pinkett will serve a three-game suspension for his comments concerning the Fighting Irish team according to IMG Radio Network.

“After careful deliberation and thorough discussion, we believe the right decision is to allow a truly repentant Allen Pinkett an opportunity to return to the booth beginning with the fourth game of the college football season,”  the Notre Dame IMG Radio Network said in a statement released Tuesday.

Pinkett was already pulled from covering Notre Dame’s 50-10 win over Navy this weekend in Dublin, Ireland. He will miss this Saturday’s home opener against Purdue, as well as the team’s Sept. 15 contest against Michigan State in East Lansing.

He would be eligible to broadcast Notre Dame second home game of the season against Michigan on Sept. 22.

“I love this school as much as I love my kids and would never want to compromise the ethics and morals of my alma mater, Notre Dame,” Pinkett said in a statement. “I would again like to offer my most sincere and heartfelt apology to all those affected by my inappropriate comments, particularly the University, the school’s hard-working and courageous student athletes, all Fighting Irish fans and team supporters, our friends at The Ohio State University, and my colleagues at IMG Notre Dame Radio Network.

“This offering of forgiveness is an extremely humbling life lesson.  I will work very hard to make the most of this second chance in representing the high standards and proud tradition of Notre Dame football.”

Last week, Pinkett went on “The McNeil and Spiegel Show” on WSCR-AM (67) in Chicago and talked about how he felt like Notre Dame would benefit from having several players serving bans.

“I’ve always felt like to have a successful team you’ve got to have a few bad citizens on the team,” Pinkett said. “That’s how Ohio State used to win all the time. They would have two or three guys that were criminals and that just adds to the chemistry of the team. I think Notre Dame is growing because maybe they have some guys that are doing something worthy of a suspension which creates edge on the football team.”

Pinkett went on to say that you can’t have a team full of “choirboys” and that having some troubled players gives you a bit of an edge.

Notre Dame had four player serving game suspensions to start the season including starting quarterback Tommy Rees and starting tailback Cierre Wood. Rees returns this week and will be the team’s No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart. Wood is still serving a two-game suspension.
